Excusals due to Honor support Empty Excusals due to Honor support

Post by TAC Wed Sep 08, 2010 4:18 pm

During WAMI today, several cadets had "PMI" notes on their door claiming it was authorized if they are sitting on an Honor Board. I have checked the SOP and understand excusals from class and other events, but a cadet does not need to be in their room during this or any other inspection period, so why would they be allowed to have their room in PMI vice WAMI or AMI? If their is an authorization for this, could you please post the reference? Thank you.

    Sir/Ma'am,

Thank you for your input and concern. As you know, CDTs that serve as Board Members are excused from classes and other duties. You are correct in that these CDTs do not need to be in their rooms during the actual inspection period. Further, you are also correct that there is no specific stipulation in either the BDE SOP or Honor SOP PAM 15-1 for CDTs to be in PMI. However, The BDE Honor Secretary does send a Honor Board Duty Notification by order of the Commandant. Within this notification, Board Members are advised, "You are authorized PMI on the day of the hearing." I can have this notification forwarded to you upon your request.

The time required to prepare for WAMI or AMI is quite substantial. The extension of the policy is derived from the situation that, as Board Members will need to prepare for class absences as well as absences from other duties the intent is to provide a compensation of time for the CDTs sitting as Board Members to prepare for this additional duty.

If you would like to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to contact me at sahm.cho@usma.edu or 845-515-1814, or the Special Assistant to the Commandant for Honor Matters, Major Daugherty at jason.daugherty@usma.edu or 845-938-7012.

    Very Respectfully,
